2017 GVQF Designated Charity: Proceeds from the sale of the 2017 raffle tickets will be donated to Finger Lakes Quilts of Valor. The Finger Lakes chapter of Quilts of Valor is a relatively new group and is a part of the national Quilts of Valor Foundation.  The mission is to cover all military individuals who have been touched by war, active or retired, with comforting and healing Quilts of Valor.  Finger Lakes QOV current goal is to complete 30 quilts to be awarded to residents of the Finger Lakes Veteran’s Outreach Center before the end of 2017.  It is a great way to honor those who have served. At the show: “Sit and Sew” for Quilts of Valor, Friday, June 2.   More Info  Guidelines for making Quilts of Valor Quilts are made under the guidance of the national foundation and follow strict regulations to ensure the quality of each quilt awarded.  Quilts are made and longarm quilted by quilters who volunteer their time, effort, and all supplies to complete the quilts.  QOV gladly accepts fabric, batting, or monetary donations to help them towards their goals.  Blocks that will finish to 12” square are gladly accepted.  If you would like to donate, email Barb Frost for information. Quilt Guidelines: Fabric should be high quality 100% quilt-weight cotton Quilt size should be a minimum of 55”x65”, preferred size is 60”x80” to maximum of 72”x90” Preferable colors are patriotic red, white and blue - avoid using fabrics containing “fireworks” or “glitter.” If you can only make blocks, we gladly accept blocks that finish to 12” square.  Any block pattern will work.  If you don’t have a block pattern, click for free pattern.

Passage to Bombay was constructed by club members Elsie Cond, Donna Schalge, Janet Root, and Nick Williams under the supervision of Cheryl Scholand.  The quilt is from a design called Fire Island Hosta by Judy Niemeyer and took about six months to complete.  Passage to Bombay  was longarm quilted by Merrilee MacWilliam and photographed by Pat Pauly. Passage to Bombay wins the contest and will be featured on the cover of The Quilt Shop Navigator, Northeast Region Directory, January 2017 edition.  Copies can purchased from a local quilt shop or ordered at www.wrbqinc.com Raffle tickets will be available from club members starting December 5, 2016.  The drawing for Passage to Bombay will be in the afternoon of June 4, 2017, the final day of the quilt show.  Proceeds from the sale of raffle tickets will be donated to Finger Lakes Quilts of Valor.  (see below)
